Oyster Fest

One of the things we were really excited about when we found out we were moving to this area was the Oyster Fest.  Which may be a silly thing to be excited about, but we come from a town of tumbleweeds where the kids get so bored on the weekends, they set Christmas trees on fire in the desert for fun.  So any kind of fest is exciting to us.  Also, I'm just such the sucker for small town things.  Especially small town things that take place on the fair grounds where old guys in their Rotary vests walk around collecting tips to give to special needs people and where everyone brought their scruffy little dogs and where kids skip around with giant ice cream cones dripping in their hands.  That is an hour greatly spent in my book.

Last Sunday we made it out to our first Oyster Fest and it did not disappoint.  The food was delicious, the arts and crafts were perfectly arts and craftsy, the ice cream was giant and cheap, the beer was seasonal, the old guys were adorable, the weather was chilly, and the people clapped during the oyster shucking competition.  Like, not ironically.  They really clapped.  They were really excited for those guys to shuck the living hell out of those oysters to win the prize.

I loved it.

I just love this weird little place so much.

(And yeah, I should have brought my camera like a good little blogger, but one hand is for the icecream and one for the beer so....)

Throwback Thursday - Halloween

Remember when Halloween used to look like this?

(fun fact: I had to crop this photo to remove my friend who is now married to a politician, dressed as a sexy bumble bee)

or this?

or this?

(sorry mom)

Now they look like me and my husband in pajamas going to bed at 9 and not having any trick or treaters because we live in an apartment.

And by god is that not a lot less (slutty looking ahem), freezing, tiring, and expensive.

Here's to being old and boring!

(Linking up with The DC Ladies for throwback embarrassing Halloween posts.....and holllly hell if those pictures above aren't embarrassing!!)

Fussy Face

I am really down on myself at the moment.

I'm fussy man, real fussy.

(I'm pmsing)

(TMI?)

And work is, you know work.  And it was raining today.  And I'm stressed about this conference I have to go to tomorrow alone and I have to drive for the first time in months which sounds dumb, but try not driving for months and then driving, it's stressful.

So I'm in a mood.

I sat in the gym doing my hard ab work out and going through the motions with our weightlifting and all I could think was, "Man, you suck at this.  Look how fat you look in those work out pants.  You are THE worst."

Not very nice.

So as I thought those thoughts and then thought, "Hey, that's super rude to think about yourself." I decided to write a blog post that was nice to myself.

SO.

Despite sometimes sucking at the gym, eating too much for dinner, and being stressed about driving for 41 minutes tomorrow, here are some things I'm good at.

Typing.  Is that a weird thing to be good at?  Whatever, I can type fast.  Thanks mom and dad for that weird typing test computer game when I was little.

Having Boobs.  Yeah, I went there.  I'm really good at having boobs.  Thanks genes.

Yeah, I have a go-to recent boob picture.  CLASSY!

Cuddling Corgis.  In the mornings, if he's not too tired, Gizmo crawls up on my chest and cuddles me until I have to get up.  It's the sweetest little thing ever.

Getting People to Make Me Cocktails.  I'm a pro at this. (I think the boobs help)

Taking Superbly Unattractive Photos.  I don't even have to try, you guys.  I'm a natural.

Gift Wrapping.  Hallmark since I was 17, ya'll.

Bitch Face.  I do a pretty good bitch face.

Eyelashes.  I get a weirdly large amount of compliments on my eyelashes.

Alfalfa Topknots.  Every time, without fail.

And apparently taking selfies, I had no shortage of those!

Now cheer up, bitch.

And This Is Why My Pants Are So Tight

I just wanted to share with you guys, since you know way too much about me already anyways, what I ate yesterday.  As an adult.  Because I find it funny.

Breakfast:  Coffe black, two pieces of wheat toast with butter, cinnamon, and sugar on them.  Oh man, cinnamon/sugar toast used to be a special thing when I was little.  So good, so sugary.

Lunch:  Leftover chicken curry w/ steamed cabbage from this awesome West African lady named Aunt Iffy who was selling her food at Perigeaux Winery yesterday.

Oyster Festival @ 2:30pm:  Not lunch, not dinner, but delicious nonetheless.  Two Oktoberfest beers, raw oysters covered in butter and garlic, fried oysters with cocktail sauce, giant ice cream cone.

Home after the Oyster Fetival while Mike took an ice bath from his soccer game:  Another beer and some baked potato chips because I was buzzed and therefore munchy.

Dinner:  An egg sandwich with cheese and an apple.

Annnnnd this is why my pants are so tight.

The End.

Happy Work

The other day at work, my boss asked me to help her pick out an outfit to wear to a music industry party she was last-minute invited to. I spent over an hour combing through my pinterest boards, rent the runway, and online shops sending her outfit ideas, options, and links to where she could buy items to create the outfits I recommended.  After sending the e-mail with all my ideas to her, I realized that was the happiest I had been at work in a long time. Which is admittedly kind of sad, but let’s not dwell.

Ever since I started doing personal style posts on my blog, I've had friends and family asking me for style advice. The times when someone has asked me to find them the perfect skirt for summer or to style some outfits for them for an event, or to find that clutch purse they've been craving for months, have made me so happy. I love searching for ideas and inspiration and helping people create those outfits without spending a ton of money.

So seriously, how do I do THAT for a living?

Bangs

Is there anything in this world that women simultaneously love and hate more than their bangs?

Maybe their husbands....

What I Wore - Floral & Stripes

With our schedules and commuting, taking outfit photos has become pretty out of the question.  Also...I've been pretty lazy about it.  Except for the almost daily obnoxious selfies I take at work.  Not too lazy for those apparently!  Some days though, even if I'm too lazy to take my outfit photos, I really love my outfits and want to share them with you guys and pretend you care.  So here is what I wore yesterday.  Enjoy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been searching for a floral pencil skirt for ages and find myself constantly eyeballing the ones at J.Crew.  Never having bought a skirt at J.Crew, I have no idea what my size is and I really don't want to shell out $60 and shipping and have the dang thing not fit and have to send it back.  So when I saw this one for sale at Forever21 for only $10, I jumped on it.  I felt pretty dern cute all day yesterday even when I realized I hadn't cut open the slit in the back and the string holding it together ripped when I was walking up some stairs.  Typical.

Shirt:  J.Crew Old
Skirt:  Forever21
Shoes:  Gift, Clark's
Earrings:  Premier

Oh Hey There

Soooo I haven't blogged in like 10 days or something.  I'm not dead.  (No one cares)  In those 10 days I've flown to California, gotten so drunk I threw up all night, been in a wedding, cried, ate a crap-load of delicious and fattening food, saw some of my favorite people, traveled back to Maryland, got delayed, got super tired, found a mouse in my apartment, and you know all the other normal stuff.

And by normal stuff I mean working, having a cold, taking a ton of selfies, walking the dogs a bunch, running errands.  All that good stuff.

But not blog worthy.

But I'm back!

And spending the whole weekend in my pjs watching tv while it rains.

Also not blog worthy.

I'll figure out something to blog about eventually.

Until then, here's a picture that has nothing to do with anything.

A Time I Felt Beautiful

Today, I'm linking up (a day late) with Betsy for her link-up!  Her prompt was to talk about a time you felt most beautiful.

Everyone is going to say their wedding day aren't they?

Well too damn bad, I'm saying it too!

I have mixed feelings about my wedding day that I've talked about on here before.  Oh the wishes I have.  I wish I had lost some weight BEFORE the wedding not after.  I wish I had done my hair differently. I  wish I had done my makeup differently.  I wish I was in a better mental state.  I wish I was more comfortable taking photos.

But none of that mattered when, during the ceremony, I started to cry and my husband-to-be-in-a-second took my hand in his.  It seems like such a small thing, but Mike is not one for PDAs.  And we had explicitly told our wedding planner during the rehearsal that we would not be holding hands the entire ceremony.  No cheesiness for us, thank you!  And then I lost it mid-ceremony because of my officiant's beautiful words and because I was just so thankful Mike was marrying me and because I felt so aware of how lucky I really was.  Mike smiling at me and taking my hand in his to comfort me, made me feel safe and perfect and beautiful.  So no matter what else I can say about that day, moments like that made me feel beautiful.
